Our Terminal

Hutchison Ports stands at the forefront of technological advancement in the ports industry.

Through continuous investment and countless exploration, we’ve developed cutting-edge solutions that contribute to greater efficiency across every aspect of our operations. To stay ahead, we will continue to innovate and use cutting-edge technologies and equipment that satisfy the needs of our customers.

The Norvik container terminal was opened in May 2020, as the first newly built port in Sweden for 100 years we are equipped with advanced facilities and equipment to accommodate the biggest vessels that can enter the Baltic Sea and supply the growing Stockholm region with goods.

Remote-controlled quay cranes

Our quay cranes are remotely operated from an operating station located in the terminal operations center.

With the aid of HD cameras, automation technologies, and advanced terminal operating system – nGen, our operators can sit comfortably in an office environment while achieving remarkable quayside productivity.

Automated straddle carrier

The hybrid-electric Automated Straddle Carrier (Auto-SC) can stack up to three containers high and intelligently interacts with the quay cranes in handling different types of assignments as instructed by the terminal operation system, nGen.

In addition, a fleet management system manages and monitors the Auto-SC with optimized routes planning and collision avoidance to ensure efficiency and safety.

These environmentally friendly hybrid Auto-SC offers a low CO2 emission which complies to the Group Environmental Committee’s policy and strategy towards a long-term sustainable business in Sweden.

Automated gate system

The automated gate system works together with our ubi application to decrease the time spent at the terminal, by directly creating the full terminal visit the second the truck arrives to the terminal.

The system scans the container numbers while the truck is in motion, based on a set of sensors. It automatically operates the illumination, takes pictures from several cameras, extracts the ID numbers, classifies the type of containers, verifies the results, then outputs the results to a higher platform such as the Port Automation & Control System (PASS).

Sustainability

SBTi approves Hutchison Ports near-term and net-zero target.

Hutchison Ports has recently obtained the approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for our submitted groupwise greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets and 2050 net-zero target. SBTi confirmed the conformity of our targets with their net-zero criteria. Our targets are in line with the trajectory to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
